The 7th Avenue Parkway grew directly out of the City Beautiful movement, which traced its origins to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.  During his visit to the “White City”, as the great fair was called, Denver Mayor Robert Speer became inspired by the planning movement and directed city landscaper and Cheesman Park designer Saco DeBoer to work with the firm of Frederick Law Olmsted (Central Park in New York) to lay out the new 7th Avenue Parkway from Williams Street east to Colorado Boulevard in 1912.  Lovely, classically inspired houses in a myriad of traditional styles followed soon thereafter, many designed by historical Denver architectural firms including Fisher & Fisher, Maurice Biscoe, Marean & Norton, Jacques B. Benedict, and Lester Varian. Stroll with us along the Parkway among a high concentration of fine houses as we honor beauty together…by looking at it!

Location:  Meet for coffee at COFFEE NOVO, 1700 East 6th Avenue at Gilpin Street, on the southeast corner.  At 9:00am we will begin the tour at the intersection of East 7th Avenue Parkway and Williams Street.  Please be respectful of the neighbors, especially when parking.  Thank you.
