For more than thirty years, Ferguson & Shamamian Architects has been one of the country’s leading residential architecture firms, renowned for the design of custom homes that embody a mastery of traditional architectural vocabularies, an unmatched dedication to craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of the dynamic collaboration between clients, architecture, interiors, landscape, and construction. As illustrated in their new book COLLABORATIONS: Architecture Interiors Landscapes—which features an extensive body of work across the country—Ferguson & Shamamian’s singular approach to architectural design seamlessly harmonizes timeless, understated classical character, proportion and detail with a keen understanding of their clients’ tastes, desires, and necessities for modern life.

Join the firm partners Stephen Chrisman and M. Damian Samora on the evening of Thursday May 5th as they pull back the curtain to show how the firm creates a dialogue between past and present, form and functionality to design residences that each have their own unique story, architectural directive, and custom details. As they open the doors to projects from the Hamptons to Aspen and beyond, they will share how their collaborative approach allows them to design truly one-of-a-kind residences that reflect the lives and personalities of their clients.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1.      Examine several traditionally inspired residences from the West to the East Coast and explore the differences in plan and execution based on regional influences and how the clients' want to live.

2.      Identify and discuss the importance of site and existing conditions in building new houses and estates.

3.      Explore varying regional architectural vernaculars and their contemporary interpretation in new houses for today's family living.

4.      Examine the role of collaboration with different experts, from interior designers to landscape architects, in the culmination of the project and design as a whole.
